In times of multiple crises – from the climate crisis and growing social inequality to the crisis of democracy – new ways are needed to shape social prosperity in a fair and sustainable way. The concept of ‘public luxury’ offers a promising approach to this end: it stands for universal access to high-quality public goods and services that enable a good life for all. In contrast to private opulence for the few, public luxury relies on collective prosperity through democratically designed common property.
With this call for proposals, we are looking for innovative projects that contribute to the development, testing and communication of various forms of public luxury. We support both scientific research projects and educational projects and artistic works that deal with the theory and practice of shared goods.
We support projects in three categories:
1. Research projects
- Empirical studies of existing models of public goods and their impact
- Critical analyses of privatisation
- Development of new concepts for democratic management of common goods
- Analysis of implementation and scaling possibilities
- Studies on ecological and social effects of collective use
2. Educational projects
- Development of educational materials on the topic of common goods and public luxury
- Design of workshops and seminars for different target groups
- Creation of digital learning formats and interactive tools
- Participatory educational formats for imparting democratic design skills
3. Art and cultural projects
- Artistic interventions in public spaces
- Documentary works on initiatives oriented towards the common good
- Participatory art projects for the redesign of public spaces
- Artistic formats for communicating alternative models of prosperity
Your project should:
- Make a tangible contribution to the development or communication of public luxury
- Pursue innovative approaches and open up new perspectives
- Be participatory and involve different social groups
- Demonstrate practical relevance and transferability
- Take sustainability aspects into account
You can apply at any time by sending the following documents and any potential questions or other information to info@assoziation-e.org:
1. Project outline (max. 5 pages) with:
- Description of the project idea and objective
- Methodical approach
- Timetable and milestones
- Expected results and how they will be communicated
2. Cost projection
3. Short description of the persons/institutions involved
You are also welcome to contact us informally first and we will then see together how your project, including the project plan, can be designed :)
